tomorrow we will

Wants to be a little bit thinner
A little more creative
A little more innovative
Make some money, some fast cash
Get famous
Be a writer, a musician, a banker, a businessman
I’m a business, man
Get in the sun, get that golden brown tan
Travel the world with your girl
Climb a mountain
Run a marathon

Wants to get married
To a tall handsome prince, a belle of the ball
To a long-legged blonde, with a wicked pixie cut
Wants to fall in love
With the boy who listens to George Michael and Madonna
With the girl who would rather play rock, than rock heels
Wants to have a perfect life, with a perfect wife
Find the fountain of youth
But what if instead noun verb truth

i said i’m going to write everyday
and i hope and i pray that i can
but it doesn’t really matter if i accomplish all the thigns i want to do
as long as i keep trying to
the thing about new year’s resolutions is that hardly anyone keeps them
but no matter – tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther …
and then one fine morning—
so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past

Title and last three lines stolen from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
